Saturday Series: While It Lasts (Sea Breeze #3) by Abbi Glines

Cage brings his playboy prowess to the countryside as the Sea Breeze hookups continue, from self-published phenomenon Abbi Glines.

Low broke Cage’s heart by getting with Marcus in Because of Low. Cage went into a tailspin that ended in a DUI. In order to salvage his baseball scholarship—the one thing he truly valued besides Low—Cage must take a summer job. At a farm. Away from Sea Breeze. With lots of cows, but no hot girls. Maybe that’s what Cage needs to get back on track.

But wait—there’s that hostile daughter of the farm boss. She’s pretty and occasionally sweet, and there seems to be a lot of sadness and mystery behind her anger. Cage is dying to strip her down—physically and mentally—in the back of the barn. But is he prepared for what will happen afterward?

REVIEW

If by the end of the first chapter you don't feel the tears in your eyes, then I'm afraid you're emotionally challenged. It really starts of with a crippling heartbreak. I am of course talking about Eva, Cage wouldn't know about love until it hit him right between the eyes.

Cage has always been about pushing the limits, but this time he went too far. Losing his license after a DUI, possible losing his scholarship and therefor his future, even he realises something needs to change. Though spending his entire summer working on a farm, wasn't what he had in mind. It is the only solution though.

What he also did not expect was this gorgeous farmer's daughter. Eva already dislikes him on principle alone, before he even has a chance to introduce himself. Yes, she can see that he is smoking hot, but she will not let that get to her. After almost being forced to spend time with Cage, Eva realises she might have misjudged him a bit, when Cage shows her his softer side.

Who knew, right? Apparently no one. Pretty much everybody is against the idea of them getting together, except Cage and the ever romantic Low. Even Eva is not convinced Cage is a suited guy for her. She thinks she has him all figured out, that after the summer he will be gone and leave her like every other girl. And she is fine with that, she does not expect more from him. Not Cage though, for the first time in his life he has found a girl who he wants to spend more time with, not less.

Cage was never one to hold back, so when he decided Eva was what he wanted, he went for it. He made it pretty clear how invested he was in her and what they had together. When he finds out what Eva's been thinking about the relationship, you can imagine how disastrous that goes.

That sometimes was a bit confusing. On the one hand Eva was very wary when it came to Cage and then the next moment she was all in, for then to pull back again. I can understand her emotional turmoil, but she caved in pretty fast actually.

Now they both haven't had it easy. Eva lost her first love and she is still trying to get over that. So her feelings and actions are at times very contradicting when it comes to Cage. So I can understand why things go cross so often. For the first time in his life Cage might be in love and it is awesome that he doesn't run from that. Though when things get hard, he has the tendency to pull back, to protect himself and lash out at others. They will need to learn to trust in their love and in each other.

One of the things I love most about these characters is how real they are. It isn't all black and white, ready for them to solve the puzzle. Having that chance at love and happy ending, is messy and Abbi Glines can write that really well. While It Lasts is another home run.
