#WattpadWednesday: The McEllis Boys by Nicole Sturgill

I wanted to introduce something new called Wattpad Wednesday. Basically this means once a week I will read and review a book that originated on Wattpad. So it can be published now and removed from Wattpad or currently still on this site. There is some crazy talent on that website and through this I want to help spread the word :)

We're starting off with The McEllis Boys by Nicole Sturgill. She's now a published author through Dream Big Publishing, but there are still some of her stories up on Wattpad. So you can always check those out first and decide if she's the author for you!

Kentucky 1875 - Cavanaugh, Jamison, Ian, and Andrew are four brothers torn apart by life and by tragedy then drawn back together because of the same. Granting a wish to their dying mother, Mary, a healer, sends the brothers on a journey. A journey to heal, to grow, to forgive, and to love. A journey that will take the gun toting, horseback riding, tough-as-nails brothers to a place very different from the home they know.

Kentucky 2011 - Nicole lives a lonely, simple life. A life void of excitement. She'd been burned enough times in her life to know that tragedy was normal and everyone eventually hurt you. Her quiet life is ripped to pieces the day she discovers four cowboys in her empty house claiming to be from 1875. Can she help the brothers learn what they were sent to learn and find a way back home? Or are they truly there to teach her a lesson in trust and love? Read this story about healing, love, hope, pain, loss, friendship, and family, to find out!

This is definitely one of Nicole Sturgill's more fun books. We actually get four stories in one about all the McEllis brothers. The whole setup is a bit silly, just don't think too hard about it and enjoy the ride. Even though Cav, Jamison, Ian and Andrew are brothers, they each have very distinctive personalities, so it's easy to keep them apart.

It has been years since these men have been in the same room. The fact that Jamison is an U.S. Marshall and Ian an outlaw, may clue you in how well these family dynamics are. Though it was interesting to see how these four guys are now forced together and have to live together again. There is certainly a strain on the relationships. So on the one hand we have these four brothers slowly resolving their issues.

Then there are also the individual issues and that is why they are sent to the future. They are placed their within Nicole's house for a reason and as long as they don't resolve their problems, they are not going back. Now cowboys from the 1800's weren't big on talking and dealing with emotions, so it's not easy at all for them. A little clue, it involves women and opening up. No easy feat for these tough cowboys.

We get to know each guy and girl in this book pretty well. They all have a very clear storyline towards their possible happy ending. It does get a bit cheesy and predictable at times, but the characters were so likeable I didn't mind.

Because we have four stories, the book is a bit long, but it's written very fluently so it didn't feel that lengthy. There was a lot of humor in the story, which I liked, though no laughing out loud funny. For me there were certain chapters that could have been scrapped, because they didn't directly involved the brothers and felt unnecessary to me. Overall a great book and if you would like to know what is to have your own real cowboy, then this is the book for you.

The Author
I am a mother of three and wife to an incredible man who makes creating strong and loving male characters in my stories easy. When I’m not chasing my children, spending time with my husband, or taking care of one of my eight animals (including a tortoise, a bearded dragon and a ball python), I am writing. Living in a small Kentucky town, which requires a twenty-five minute drive to simply find a traffic light, creates the need to find escapes and writing does that for me. At times when I’m not writing, I also enjoy four wheeling, hiking, hunting, and spending lots of time outdoors. Life is a constant inspiration and so, I try to live it to the fullest!
